Mars is known as the 'Red Planet' due to its reddish appearance, which is caused by iron oxide, or rust, on its surface. Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and is a focus of much study because of the possibility it could have supported life. Venus is often called Earth's twin, Jupiter is the largest planet, and Mercury is the closest to the Sun.
